Rooms, relationships and reciprocity — how the best operators build networks that open doors before they need them.
← All episodesNetworking is one of the worst words in business, because it describes an activity that only works when you are not doing it. The version everyone was taught, collect contacts and follow up, produces a list of people who do not think about you. What actually moves is narrower and slower.
Here is the mechanic that matters in my world. Good deals are not shared, they are placed. When a sponsor has something real and needs capital quickly, they do not run a process. They call the few people who have said yes cleanly before, without drama, on a predictable timeline. Everyone else learns about it later, which is why an opportunity that arrives in your inbox has usually already been declined by people closer to it than you.
That has an uncomfortable implication and a useful one. The uncomfortable part is that money does not buy access. You can be wealthy, credentialed and well liked and still see only what has been passed over. The useful part is that the thing being rewarded is not charisma or status, it is predictability, and predictability can be built deliberately. Know what you buy and what you never buy, be able to say no in a day, be able to decide and fund without three weeks of internal process. Do that consistently and you become easy to think of, which is the entire game.
These episodes cover that work from both directions: how to be the person others bring things to, how to evaluate a relationship before it becomes a position, why access is never protection, and the difference between people who are collecting contacts and people who are building a reputation that arrives before they do.
In Spanish and English, each with a written version that carries the idea further.
