DJ Van Keuren went from a small town in upstate New York and D1 baseball at Ball State to co-developing a coffee company in Vietnam, where he learned to think big and always have a plan B, C, and D. Back in the U.S., he built a private fund positioned as one of the first single-family REITs and sold before the crash, studied at Harvard, and fell into the family office world in Denver. Today he runs the Family Office Real Estate Institute with its University of Denver conference, has underwritten more than $5 billion in real estate deals, and coaches families on governance, patient capital, and 18.6-year real estate cycles.
