Follow your customers, not the map. M Street Optical expanded to Flushing, Brooklyn's 8th Avenue, and Staten Island by tracking where loyal Chinatown customers moved — the Staten Island store grew exponentially in two years.
Depth of service is the moat. Asian-fit frames, high-prescription thin lenses, language service, free adjustments, and education-first, no-hard-sell care keep customers that online players can't serve.
Diversify your vendors before you have to. When a buyout killed the back-end service behind his bestselling $600 German frames, Kenneth learned never to let one supplier carry the business.
